‘Made in-India’ tag

Consider this: Raymond supplies ready-to-wear garments to Zara, Levi’s, Mango and Gap, while Gokuldas Exports darns for Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas and Nike. Even Indian designers – from Manish Arora to Ritu Beri to Sabyasachi Mukherjee – are walking international ramps and showing their collections at prestigious fashion shows across the globe. Some of them even have their own outlets in the ‘metros of the world’. But, in spite of fantastic export figures and despite national designers making an intellectual mark abroad, the fact is that there is almost no Indian brand making its name in the uppity hobnobbing circles, leave, of course, the pristine brand of yoga! There is not even a single Indian ‘brand’ or designer name that shares foreign shelf space with the likes of Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, Armani or even Nike.
